USS Moctobi (ATF-105)

Here are seven great photos depicting shipbpard life received from Freddy Fliege up Illinois way. These images were taken early in 1965.  Freddy was aboard the Moctobi from July 1964 to August 1965. Before reporting to the Moctobi, Freddy spent two years shore duty at FOCCPAC in Hawaii where he become an RM2.

Row #1 From Left to Right: #1 A shot taken from the fantail forward. I not sure but it looks like Freddy in this shot. The ATF on the right is unknown. #2 Freddy Fliege with the classic tool of the sailor-- a swab (also known as a mop to you land lubbers). This is on the boat deck, port side. #3 is a shot from what looks like the signal bridge. You can see the A-frame and boom and in the distance what looks like barges in tow. This was one of the major chores of an ATF class ship. #4 The crew taking time out for a steak dinner on the main deck. It was common practice to cook out on a grill on the fantail on Sunday's or holidays. Row #2 From Left to Right: #1 A back view of the cook at the grill. #2 The front view. Two cooks grilling up some T-bones. #3 Freddy Fliege in the UNclassified area of the Radio Shack. It looks like he is listening to CW (Morse Code). Thanks Freddy !
