Life on the Moctobi when I
was onboard. Thanks to Steve Bingham of
Denton, NC. Steve was on the Moctobi just before and for a short while
after I came onboard. Here are some great photos he sent. #1. A
commercially done photo of the Moctobi underway with the crew manning the
rails. I believe I had this photo at one time myself. #2. The Moctobi in
drydock in Pearl Harbor - aft view. #3 Drydock view of the bow of the
Moctobi #4. One of the enginemen standing on the ladder up to the boat
deck. You can seen the massive towing engine behind and to the left. #5.
Doc Saunders and QM1 Miller on the messdecks. #6. One of the Damage
Controlmen in front of the hatch back to the shipfitter shop and diving
locker. #7. Signalman 2c Phil Martin. #8. A photo of Gary P. Holmes, a
mutual friend of ours, horsing around with Chuck Orr. #9. RM3 Staley. He was on the ship when I
was there but got off shortly after I got into the Radio Shack. #10. Steve
lighting off an Alco main engine. We got new Caterpiller main engines 1969
but until then engineers like Steve had to nurse the old Alco's to keep
them running. 11. Steve in main control. 12. Photo taken from the bow
showing the anchor windlass and superstructure and wheelhouse. You can see
the 3" 50 gun mount with the gun barrel pointing skyward. Steve:
Thanks for the great photos. Keep them coming.
Here's one more photo, sent to me
by Gary Holmes. It's of Steve in Binh Thuy in 1969.
