USS MOLALA (ATF-106)

The 1959 Thanksgiving menu displayed below was contributed by Tom Anderson. Tom served on the Molala from  1958 to about 1961.  Tom is from Iowa and am now retired from banking after 34 years.  He started out on the Molala as a fireman app and was a IC2 by the time he got out.  The ship was homeported in San Diego and traveled between the coast and Japan, Guam, Midway Island and made several stop's in Hong Kong. While onboard, the ship towed several ships from the coast to Japan and back and also towed targets for aircraft practice.  They were also involved in sea rescue and in towing underseas mine experiments. Tom says the Molala is the "Best duty I could have had".  His best friend was a radioman named Joe Peth from Ga. but as with many of our shipmates he's lost trace of him over the years. Thanks for the menu, Tom. I'm getting hungry again. I can't wait to see some more of Tom Anderson's Molala photos.
