USS Moctobi (ATF-105)

Thanks to Jerry O'Conner who served on the Moctobi from 1978 to 1981.

Per Jerry: We did a 1980 run to Pearl harbor to do our Salvage and Towing training near Pearl City.  I could look on the beach and see the Pearl City Tavern.  I lived in Aiea in 1974 in a apartment until I got Navy housing in Salt Lake area near the Honolulu Airport.  I was stationed at Submarine Base Repair for 2 years of shore duty as a EM2/EM1; and than was discharged on my EAOS at Sand Point Naval Support Activity, Seattle, Wash.

Part 2 of Welcome Aboard brochure

Moctobi was homeported in Everett, Wash. from Sept. 1976 to May 1980; and then changed homeports to Longbeach, Calif.  CO Martin was relieved by CO Smith in late summer early fall 1979 just before the Moctobi drydock overhaul at Marine Power Ship Yard Dry Dock Lake Washington in Seattle area.

This citation was awarded to Moctobi for the Nov. to Dec.1980 tow to Panama from San Fransisco of the ex USNS Ute and Lipan for the Coast Guard in Curtis Bay, Maryland.  The ATFs were towed through the canal by a USNS ATF from Curtis Bay, Maryland.
