USS Moctobi (ATF-105)

Photos contributed by Ski Biernacki. Ski was on the Moctobi in the 1950's.

This picture was taken 1952 in Attu Harbor when the Moctobi went North to operate in AIR & SEA RESCUE OPERATIONS. The picture shows Beach, BM2 in the suit getting ready to go over the side . We were steadying him on the Platform
This photo shows Beach Bm2, in the suit, and me and Laddy Bm3, getting ready to put his helmet on before his going over the side, Because of bad weather there , we were setting up a means of being able to remain tied up to the dock during the High and Low Tides and during storms . Dead Men off of the Port Bow and the Port Quarter ,connected by heavy Anchor Chains and retrieving wire. The retrieving wire was picked up , connected to winches and the ship was breasted far enough away from the Dock. So we could ride out a pretty good size Gale or Storm. Sometimes the weather was so bad that we couldn’t get to our Beer and Movie shack that was on the Dock next to the Ship
